Trying something new, actually old.

In times of unsettling change and disorientation, I’ve often found comfort in returning to the familiarity of the tried and true. Hence, what I’m sharing today.

For a few years around 2009 (It’s a little hazy) I hosted FOX + Friends Weekend with my pal Dave Briggs. We had a lot of laughs — and a lot of hair-yanking frustration, particularly with the Ailes’ worldview (heavy on outrage) that we were regularly expected to peddle. But that’s another story. (See: Amanda Wakes Up).

Anyway, one of the lasting gifts from those crazy years is a dear friendship and ease of conversation with Dave. So, when he asked if I wanted to have a convo connected to the Surgeon General’s warning about the link between alcohol and cancer, I said sure, come on over. It’s a topic we both have attachment to.

What this experiment taught me is that the brave new world of Substack and DIY podcasts is very cool. After decades spent in traditional big, bustling newsrooms with lots of staff and high-tech control rooms, it’s pretty mind-blowing to just flip a light switch, press play, and you’re off to the races.

I’m putting most of this video behind a paywall because Dave and I discuss alcohol and drug use (namely our own) in a fairly light-hearted way, and I don’t want to scare my wider Substack community this early into our courtship (though if you’ve read my memoir, Combat Love, none of this will surprise you). Also, despite what I may have claimed in the past, I’m not actually a medical professional, so please consult your doctor before taking my shrooming advice.

Love to hear your thoughts.
