Have you turned off TV news? Join the club. Even I — a lifelong devotee and practitioner (!) of morning news — keep my set off morning, noon, and night nowadays (unless it’s to watch reruns of Parks and Rec, which the kids and I find amazingly soothing). I don’t blame anyone for needing to tune out. So many of us feel the need to protect our mental health from the onslaught of chaos, toxicity, hypocrisy, and injustice that, if the previous Trump administration and campaigns are any guide, are about to ramp us. The problem is that this moment is no time for sane, thoughtful Americans to disengage.
This weekend Senator Blumenthal, Dan Woog, Dave Briggs and I (I even tricked The Berman into coming!) had quite an exchange of ideas on a fiesty panel. Here are my takeaways:
