Hi Friends! In my ongoing experimentation, I’d like to try a live chat today with whoever can join at 5p (et). I’m calling it “What Am I Missing?” where I try to understand a perspective that I truly don’t get.
I’d like to start with Donald Trump’s promise to pardon the January 6th convicts. Help me out, folks. Can someone explain how it makes sense — even purely bald political sense — to pardon people who tried to kill police officers? Republicans in Congress are comfortable releasing violent convicts who assaulted law enforcement officers? Surely I’m missing something.
I would love to hear from someone who understands or can at least explain this mindset. If that’s you, please let me know and we can discuss it at 5.
Feel free to post any other questions you have for me here and I’ll tackle them at 5 today. You can also post questions and comments live during the chat.
I’m excited to give this a shot!
Yea, there are a lot of thoughts on this. Looking forward to the chat.
I think Eugenio has a point. It’s also instructive to evaluate just how many campaign promises the President elect made versus how many he kept last time around. Maybe just bluster. Or partial bluster. A negotiating tactic, kind of like emptying out the clown car for his cabinet nominations… He knows that many of them will be rejected, but they can’t reject everyone, so some of them will get through.
